VICOTRIA SUIERO
Founder of Gals Day (MGD), a community-driven initiative aimed at empowering and connecting women creators in Austin. Our mission is to foster creativity, collaboration, and support among female influencers, models, photographers, designers, and other creative individuals. Through a series of events, we provide a platform for women to build meaningful relationships, share ideas, and create opportunities that elevate their personal and professional lives.
My passion for empowering women and promoting creativity led me to start Monthly Gals Day. The idea was born from the realization that many talented women in Austin’s creative industry lacked a supportive community to connect with like-minded individuals and showcase their talents. Having experienced the transformative power of collaboration and support in my own life, I was determined to create a space where women could come together, inspire one another, and thrive as creators.
KIERA WILLIAMS
Singing scriptures and creating all sorts of art for the sake of HIS name. Digital, physical and vocal content creator with a spiritual twist. Servant Savionne creates music and artistic content to heal, build, and inspire others to develop their artistry and transform into their best selves. Our creativity is deeply rooted in connection to our Divine Creator, and the more time you spend developing your craft, the closer you are to GOD, for it is HE that is giving you all your ideas anyway. I thank GOD for using me as a vessel. The mission HE has me on is spreading the Good News- HIS WORD- through worldly rhythmic beats and melodies. My sound is truly one of a kind, and it truly speaks for itself. It is my hope that my music redirects people to scriptures, knowing and understanding GOD more through HIS WORD. As someone who loves to write, it was very edifying to understand that my words were a distraction from HIS WORD. In response to this edification, in 2020, I decided it was best to limit my interpretation of scriptures, and simply sing the scriptures themselves. To God be the Glory always, and forever and ever.

Use Art to Make the World a Better Place!

F
rom Pablo Picasso’s “Guernica” to Kehinde Wiley’s “Rumors of War”, artists have spoken up against the injustices they see within the world and the cultures that they are part of. But for most artists, this heightened level of discussion will not be attainable. This should not stop us from believing that our voices and efforts are worthy.
If desired, you can work within your community to address the issues you see hurting your community. Never for a moment think what you are doing is too small or insignificant to make an impact. Let’s examine the story of @Lakey360, Joshua ‘Lakey’ Hinson. He is a chalk artist who creates stunning mandola installations on sidewalks in his hometown of Longview, Texas. Just 128 miles east of Dallas, Texas. His initial aim was to provide joyful and positive messages to people on their standard walks around town. He would use sidewalk chalk, a non-permanent material that elementary children use regularly to express themselves.
Turning Chalk Art into Activism: How One Artist’s Work Sparked a City Cleanup
Even though this art would be washed away by rain or the casual bucket of water, the city tasked maintenance staff to power wash it away. When Hinson realized they were cleaning his art, he wasn’t mad; it was just for fun. However, he noticed a larger problem: while his art was washed away, the surrounding filth, debris, and drug paraphernalia remained untouched. To prompt the city to address the neglected areas, he drew his artwork in particularly dirty spots, leading to resistance and his arrest for "encumbering a sidewalk" while making chalk art.
This only brought more attention to his efforts, highlighting how some cities mismanage resources. His story serves as a reminder to stay strong in pursuing positive change, echoing Martin Luther King Jr.’s belief in the moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.
The Dual Face of AI: Shaping the Future

A
rtificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the world at a pace that was once the realm of science fiction. From healthcare to finance, AI is poised to reshape industries, offering unprecedented advancements in efficiency, accuracy, and innovation.
However, this powerful technology also raises significant ethical and societal concerns, particularly regarding privacy, surveillance, and the potential for a predictive policing system reminiscent of a dystopian future. The Bright Side of AI AI's transformative potential is vast and multifaceted. In healthcare, AI algorithms are diagnosing diseases with remarkable accuracy, identifying patterns in medical data that often elude human practitioners. For example, AI-driven diagnostics can detect early signs of cancer, predict patient outcomes, and personalize treatment plans, improving survival rates and quality of life. In finance, AI systems analyze market trends and consumer behaviors to make real-time investment decisions, detect
fraudulent activities, and offer personalized banking experiences. Smart assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant have become integral to our daily lives, providing information, managing schedules, and controlling smart home devices with simple voice commands. Moreover, AI's potential to address global challenges is significant. It can optimize supply chains to reduce waste, develop climate models to predict and mitigate the effects of climate change, and even assist in disaster response by analyzing satellite images to coordinate relief efforts.
Navigating the Promises and Perils of AI in Education and Society
The integration of AI into education promises personalized learning experiences, helping students at different levels grasp complex concepts more effectively. The Shadow of Surveillance Despite these promising applications, AI also harbors a darker side. The technology's capacity for data collection and analysis can lead to an omnipresent surveillance state, where privacy becomes a relic of the past. Governments and corporations can utilize AI to monitor individuals' activities, communications, and even predict behaviors, raising profound ethical questions. China's extensive use of AI-driven surveillance systems offers a glimpse into this potential future. Facial recognition technology and AI algorithms track citizens' movements, social interactions, and online activities, feeding into a comprehensive social credit system that rewards or punishes behavior. While proponents argue this increases safety and order, critics warn it erodes personal freedoms and autonomy. Predictive Policing: A Dystopian Reality? The concept of predictive policing, popularized by the film "Minority Report," is no longer confined to fiction. AI can analyze vast amounts of data to predict where crimes might occur and identify potential suspects before crimes are committed. While this promises a proactive approach to crime prevention, it also raises critical ethical and legal concerns. Predictive policing relies on historical crime data, which can be biased and flawed.
If the data reflects systemic biases, such as racial profiling, the AI will perpetuate these biases, leading to discriminatory policing practices. Innocent individuals could find themselves under scrutiny simply because they fit a profile generated by an algorithm. Furthermore, the deployment of AI in law enforcement raises questions about accountability and transparency. If an AI system makes an erroneous prediction that leads to wrongful arrest or excessive surveillance, who is responsible? The opacity of AI decision-making processes, often described as "black box" algorithms, complicates the issue of accountability. Balancing Innovation and Ethics As AI continues to advance, striking a balance between harnessing its potential and addressing its ethical implications is crucial. Policymakers, technologists, and society at large must collaborate to establish robust frameworks that ensure AI is used responsibly and transparently. Regulations should mandate the ethical use
of AI, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and the protection of individual rights. Data privacy laws must be strengthened to safeguard against unauthorized data collection and misuse. Additionally, AI systems should be designed with fairness and inclusivity in mind, actively working to eliminate biases. Public awareness and engagement are also vital. Society must be informed about the capabilities and risks of AI, fostering a culture of digital literacy and critical thinking. By understanding AI's potential and pitfalls, individuals can advocate for ethical practices and hold institutions accountable. The Path Forward The future shaped by AI holds immense promise but also significant peril. As we stand on the cusp of this technological revolution, the choices we make today will determine whether AI becomes a force for good or a tool of oppression. By prioritizing ethical considerations, transparency, and accountability, we can harness AI's power to build a future that is not only innovative but also just and equitable. In this delicate balance, AI's potential to revolutionize industries and solve global challenges can coexist with a commitment to preserving individual freedoms and privacy. The path forward requires vigilance, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to ethical principles, ensuring that the AI-driven future is one that benefits all of humanity.
Living in Limbo

n bustling cities and quiet towns across the nation, a silent crisis continues to unfold. Impoverished, underresourced neighborhoods bear the brunt of widening economic disparity, systemic neglect, and social isolation. These areas, marginalized and overlooked, increasingly resemble open-air prisons.
where opportunities are scarce and residents feel trapped by their circumstances. The Walls That Confine nlike traditional prisons, the boundaries of these neighborhoods are not marked by high walls lined with barbed wire. Instead, they are delineated by socioeconomic barriers that limit access to quality education, healthcare, employment, and safe living conditions. The lack of investment in these communities results in deteriorating infrastructure, with crumbling roads, inadequate housing, and limited public services. For many, the sense of confinement is palpable, as the daily struggle for survival stifles any hope of upward mobility.
Breaking the Chains of Poverty: A Call for Comprehensive Change
Employment: A Vanishing Mirage he economic landscape of low-income neighborhoods is bleak by definition. High unemployment rates and a scarcity of well-compensated, sustainable work force many into low-wage, unstable employment with low to no oppportunities for growth and advancement. This lack of economic opportunity hurts individuals and families and stifles community growth and development. Small businesses struggle to survive, and lack of investment limits job creation. Without stable income, residents cannot escape poverty, leading to a sense of hopelessness and resignation.
Mental Health: The Invisible Battle ental health issues are rampant in impoverished neighborhoods, exacerbated by the stress and trauma of living in poverty. The constant struggle to meet basic needs causes anxiety, depression, and a host of other mental health challenges. Limited availability and access to mental healthcare services compounds the issue: the unaffordability of therapy or counseling keeps already limited community mental health resources perpetually underfunded and overstretched.
The Drug Epidemic: A Desperate Escape The lack of healthy coping strategies in these neighborhoods often leads to substance abuse. The drug epidemic, particularly opioids, has hit impoverished areas hard. For many, drugs become a means of escaping the harsh realities of their daily lives. The prevalence of substance abuse exacerbates the cycle of poverty and despair, leading to increased crime rates, broken families, and further health complications. Rehabilitation services are scarce, leaving many without the help they need to break free from addiction.
Breaking the Chains: addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by low-income communities requires a correspondingly multifaceted approach. Investments in education, healthcare, and economic development is crucial. Policies that promote affordable housing, job creation, and community revitalization can help break the cycle of poverty. Tackling food deserts by incentivizing grocery stores and farmers' markets to operate in these areas can improve residents' access to nutritious food. Additionally, comprehensive mental health and addiction services are essential for providing residents with the support they need to develop healthy coping strategies. Fostering social inclusion and combating the stigma associated with poverty are also vital for creating a more equitable society.
The metaphor of an open-air prison aptly describes the plight of impoverished neighborhoods, where invisible barriers confine residents to a life of limited opportunities and constant struggle. However, unlike a prison sentence, the conditions in these areas are not a result of individual wrongdoing but systemic failures and neglect. By recognizing and addressing these issues, society can work towards transforming neglected neighborhoods from places of confinement into communities of opportunity and hope.
