WELCOME TO AVENOIR MAGAZINE

My name is Fredrick Douglas Womack. As the editor and creator of the magazine, let me start by saying this process has been one of challenge, intrigue, and accomplishment. I identify first and foremost as creative. I do not have a creative writing degree, did not get an MFA from some elite, or accredited, or any institution, but have taken on the daunting task of creating a space for diverse voices to be heard and celebrated.
The publishing of Avenoir in and of itself is a testament to “getting it out the mud.” To those who may not have all the resources, talents, or opportunities to fully actualize, Avenoir is proof positive that a relentless grind and pursuit of your passions can culminate in something beautiful and sustainable in service to your community.
A sincere thank you to all who had a part in bringing this dream to fruition, and special thanks to you, the reader, for becoming part of the family.
Avenoir is devoted to becoming a chief discoverer and amplifier of talent, social capital, and culture in Central Texas. Born from the necessity of delivering a platform accessible to those within my community who are often underserved and overlooked, this is a way for “us” in the creator landscape and beyond, to experience each other, spark dialogue, and share our commonality. Our hope is for Avenoir to become a springboard for local creatives, entrepreneurs, and small businesses alike.
In the wake of a decline in readership, the magazine will serve as a lifeline to the “desperate” reader—those on the lookout for a story that speaks more directly to your condition. Avenoir’s first edition will focus on Austin’s A-list, a collection of interviews with local talent whose stories you may or may not be familiar with. This will be an ongoing part of the magazine and posted on the internet for readers in between publication release dates. The main goal of the platform is to provide relevant commentary on pertinent issues and help to shape the correct narrative concerning the “culture.”
As a dissemination hub for all things Black arts and culture, we are dedicated to shining the light on all communities and allies. We’re all in this together! I hope we will all enjoy this journey of growth together.

AVENOIR MAGAZINE
Celebrating Diversity Through Art and Culture
Avenoir believes in the transformative power of art and culture to inspire, empower, and connect communities. Born out of a passion for creative expression and a commitment to amplifying diverse voices, Avenoir Magazine is a platform dedicated to celebrating the rich tapestry of human experience.
Unlike traditional media outlets, we prioritize storytelling over sensationalism, depth over superficiality, and connection over division. Our goal is to create a space where readers can engage with thought-provoking content that challenges their perspectives, ignites their passions, and sparks meaningful dialogue.
avenoir - n. the desire that memory could flow backward
We take it for granted that life moves forward. But you move as a rower moves, facing backwards: you can see where you've been, but not where you're going. And your boat is steered by a younger version of you. It's hard not to wonder what life would be like facing the other way.

VISION
Avenoir aims to be the leading hub for relatable, relevant, and accurate artistic and cultural content, driving cultural progression through a fusion of edutainment and artivism. Join us as we paint the canvas of the future with passion, purpose, and possibility.
MISSION
Avenoir Magazine is on a mission to redefine the narrative surrounding art, culture, and identity. We seek to challenge stereotypes, break down barriers, and foster a greater understanding and appreciation for the myriad perspectives that make up our world.
GOALS
Avenoir's overarching goals are to act as a conduit, linking businesses of color and creatives to opportunities and customers, thereby promoting economic empowerment within BIPOC communities. We are dedicated to providing a platform that amplifies underrepresented voices, showcases the talents of BIPOC individuals, and fosters authentic representation of BIPOC experiences and cultures. Through community building, engagement initiatives, and events, we aim to create a supportive ecosystem where
meaningful connections are forged, dialogue is encouraged, and collaboration thrives, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.
